Honoring Juneteenth: A Reflection on Freedom and Unity

Honoring Juneteenth: A Reflection on Freedom and Unity

As we celebrate Juneteenth, it is important to acknowledge and honor its significance. Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. This day holds great importance as it symbolizes the triumph of freedom and the enduring spirit of resilience.

2024 is the 159th anniversary of Juneteenth, and the 4th year it is being recognized as a federal holiday.

Freedom:

Juneteenth commemorates the liberation of enslaved individuals in the United States. It also celebrates freedom of self-expression and self-determination.

On June 19th, the emancipation of enslaved individuals is celebrated. This marks the day when news of their freedom finally reached Texas, the last state to have enslaved people, following the end of the Civil War. On that day, General Granger arrived with 2,000 federal soldiers. They informed the people that they were now free men and women.

Community:

In commemorating Juneteenth, we encourage our employees to learn about its history and significance. It is an opportunity for us to engage in meaningful conversations, educate ourselves, and honor the resilience of the African American community.
